Location: Raleigh, NC
We are seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacist to join a hospital-based pharmacy team supporting acute and critical care services in Raleigh, North Carolina. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medications for patients in the Emergency Department. The ideal candidate is a proactive clinician with strong critical-thinking skills, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to work seamlessly within a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical pharmacy expertise within the Emergency Department to optimize medication therapy for patients of all acuity levels.
- Participate in trauma, cardiac arrest, stroke, and sepsis response teams, ensuring appropriate drug selection and rapid delivery.
- Review and verify medication orders for accuracy, interactions, and dosing in real time.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff to guide evidence-based pharmacotherapy decisions.
- Support medication safety initiatives, antimicrobial stewardship programs, and opioid management protocols.
- Educate medical and nursing staff on emergency pharmacotherapy updates, new drug protocols, and safe medication practices.
- Participate in the development and review of departmental policies, protocols, and clinical guidelines.
- Provide bedside clinical support and medication consultations during emergency and critical care situations.
- Contribute to quality improvement and medication utilization review projects across the department.
- Maintain current knowledge of emergency medicine pharmacology, antidotes, and procedural drug administration.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
- Active and unrestricted Pharmacist License in the state of North Carolina.
- Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency required; PGY2 Residency in Emergency Medicine or Critical Care preferred.
- Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS) or Emergency Medicine Pharmacy (BCEMP) preferred.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of clinical pharmacy experience in hospital, emergency, or critical care settings.
- Strong knowledge of acute care pharmacotherapy, dosing principles, and emergency medication management.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in high-pressure situations.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and pharmacy information systems.
Schedule & Work Environment:
- Full-time, onsite position based in Raleigh, North Carolina.
- Rotating 10–12 hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Hospital-based environment supporting multidisciplinary emergency and critical care teams.
Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $131,000 – $162,000 a year ($63.00 – $78.00 per hour), based on experience.
