Location: Lexington, KY (Greater Metro Area)
We are seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support surgical and procedural services within an acute care hospital setting. This role is responsible for cleaning, inspecting, assembling, sterilizing, and tracking surgical instruments and medical devices to support safe, efficient patient care.
This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who takes pride in precise, consistent work and understands the important role sterile processing plays in infection prevention and surgical readiness.
Responsibilities:
- Decontaminate surgical instruments and medical devices according to infection prevention protocols
- Inspect, assemble, and package instrument trays based on procedure needs and department standards
- Operate sterilization equipment, including autoclaves, low-temperature sterilizers, and washer-decontaminators
- Complete biological and chemical sterilization monitoring and document results accurately
- Maintain instrument tracking records throughout the full tray lifecycle
- Support operating room teams by prioritizing urgent instrument needs
- Process loaner instruments in accordance with department procedures and manufacturer guidelines
- Participate in quality improvement efforts related to tray accuracy and turnaround time
- Maintain compliance with sterile processing standards, safety requirements, and regulatory expectations
- Process endoscopes and flexible scopes according to manufacturer instructions and high-level disinfection protocols
- Identify damaged, missing, or malfunctioning instruments and escalate concerns appropriately
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe sterile processing work environment
Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required
- Minimum of 1 year of sterile processing, central service, or related experience preferred
- CRCST certification through HSPA required within 12 months of hire
- Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, sterilization methods, and infection control practices
- Ability to follow detailed protocols with strong accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to lift instrument trays up to 35 pounds and stand for extended periods
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with operating room and clinical teams
Schedule:
- Full-time, on-site position
- Rotating shifts including evenings, weekends, and on-call
- Standard full-time hours per pay period
Salary Range: The salary range for this position is approximately $42,000 – $58,000 annually ($20.00 – $28.00 per hour), based on experience and qualifications. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
