Job Description

Location: Durham, NC (Greater Metro Area)

We are hiring for a Medical Coder – Multi-Specialty with a multi-specialty physician group practice located in the US. This position is a full-time, direct hire opportunity.

Responsibilities:

  • Assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes for professional services across specialties
  • Code professional claims across internal medicine, cardiology, orthopedics, and general surgery
  • Select appropriate E/M levels per current AMA and CMS documentation guidelines
  • Apply appropriate modifiers, bundling edits, and global period rules to maximize compliant reimbursement
  • Query providers when documentation is insufficient to support code assignment
  • Maintain coding accuracy rates at or above 95% as measured through internal and external audits
  • Stay current with annual CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS code updates and payer-specific coding policies
  • Participate in coder education sessions and contribute to coding tip sheets for clinical staff
  • Review and resolve coding-related claim denials and rejections in collaboration with the billing team

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher preferred; equivalent coding certification and experience accepted
  • CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or CCS-P certification required
  • Minimum 3 years of professional fee coding experience across multiple medical specialties
  • Expert knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and E/M coding guidelines
  • Experience with encoder software and EHR-integrated coding workflows
  • Strong understanding of NCCI edits, modifier usage, and Medicare billing rules

Schedule:

  • Full-time position
  • Standard business hours
  • Standard full-time hours per pay period

Salary Range: The salary range for this position is approximately $55,000 – $70,000 annually ($26.44 – $33.65 per hour), based on experience and qualifications. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
