Job Description
Location: Atlanta, GA (Hybrid)
We are seeking an Oncology Nurse Navigator to guide patients through the full cancer continuum at a comprehensive cancer center. This position is a full-time, direct hire opportunity based in Atlanta, GA with some hybrid flexibility.
This role is best aligned for an experienced oncology nurse who wants sustained patient relationships and a clear path into program development and leadership. You will carry your own patient panel from diagnosis through survivorship, sequence multidisciplinary appointments to keep treatment on schedule, translate complex clinical information into language families can act on, and clear the barriers that delay care. The ideal candidate pairs strong oncology clinical judgment with the emotional intelligence to steady patients during the hardest weeks of their lives.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive needs assessments for newly diagnosed patients and build individualized navigation plans addressing clinical, psychosocial, financial, and logistical barriers
- Serve as the primary point of contact across the full continuum including diagnosis, surgical consultation, medical and radiation oncology, clinical trials, survivorship, and palliative transitions
- Coordinate and sequence appointments across surgery, pathology, radiology, oncology, infusion, and ancillary services to minimize time from diagnosis to treatment
- Attend tumor boards and multidisciplinary conferences, contribute the navigation perspective, and ensure follow-through on all action items
- Educate patients and families on diagnosis, staging, treatment modalities, expected side effects, symptom management, and when to seek urgent care
- Identify and resolve barriers including authorization delays, transportation, language and literacy needs, financial hardship, housing instability, and caregiver burden
- Facilitate referrals to social work, financial counseling, nutrition, palliative care, chaplaincy, and community cancer support organizations
- Screen patients on active treatment for distress and unmanaged symptoms using validated tools such as the NCCN Distress Thermometer, escalating concerns to the care team
- Support clinical trial screening and enrollment by identifying eligible patients, coordinating with research staff, and educating families on trial participation
- Document navigation activity, care plans, and outcomes in the EHR to support registry reporting and program quality metrics
Qualifications:
- BSN required; MSN or graduate education in nursing, healthcare administration, or a related field preferred and may substitute for some navigation experience
- Active, unencumbered Georgia RN license required prior to start; multistate compact licensure accepted with Georgia endorsement in process
- OCN or ONN-CG certification through ONCC preferred; candidates must be eligible and willing to sit for the exam within 12 months of hire
- Minimum of 3 years of direct oncology nursing experience required across a range of diagnoses and treatment modalities
- Prior nurse navigation, case management, or care coordination experience strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of cancer biology, staging systems, NCCN guidelines, and multimodal protocols across breast, lung, GI, GYN, and hematologic malignancies
- Proficiency with oncology EHR platforms, particularly Epic Beacon or equivalent; experience with distress screening and registry reporting preferred
- Strong patient education, advocacy, and interdisciplinary communication skills
Schedule:
- Full-time position, Monday through Friday
- On-site in Atlanta, GA with some hybrid flexibility
- Day shift, standard business hours
Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is approximately $85,000 – $102,000 annually ($40.87– $49.04 per hour), based on experience and qualifications.
Interview Process:
Selected candidates will participate in a multi-step interview process, including an initial screening with TalentLNX followed by interviews with department leadership.
