We are hiring for a Substance Abuse Counselor, LCDC with a well-established behavioral health treatment center located in the US. This position is a full-time, direct hire opportunity.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct biopsychosocial intake assessments gathering substance use, mental health, trauma history, and social determinants.
  • Develop and update individualized treatment plans with clients including measurable goals and timelines.
  • Facilitate group therapy covering relapse prevention, coping skills, anger management, grief, family systems, and 12-step integration.
  • Provide individual counseling using Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Matrix Model techniques.
  • Complete clinical documentation including intake assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries.
  • Monitor client attendance, engagement, and behavior; conduct progress reviews to assess level of care.
  • Facilitate referrals to medical detox, residential treatment, sober living, psychiatric services, and peer support.
  • Build relapse prevention plans with discharging clients including coping strategies, triggers, and recovery support linkage.
  • Conduct family education and therapy sessions to repair relationships, establish boundaries, and engage support networks.

Qualifications:

  • Hold active, unrestricted LCDC credential from Texas State Board; LCDC-I with supervision plan acceptable.
  • Demonstrate 2+ years clinical counseling experience in IOP, PHP, or outpatient substance use disorder treatment settings.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Matrix Model; certification or CEU documentation preferred.
  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessments, ASAM level-of-care determinations, and develop individualized treatment plans using clinical documentation standards.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with behavioral health EHR platforms such as Kipu, TheraNest, or Valant strongly preferred.
  • Understand Texas DSHS regulations, CARF, Joint Commission standards, and HIPAA compliance for behavioral health settings.

Schedule:

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday
  • On-site in Houston, TX
  • Day and evening shift availability required for IOP programming

Salary Range: The salary range for this position is approximately $42,000 – $58,000 annually ($20.19 – $27.88 per hour), based on experience and qualifications.
