We are seeking an experienced Insurance Access Coordinator to support a specialty pharmacy patient access program focused on timely therapy initiation and insurance navigation. This full-time, onsite role plays a critical part in ensuring patients can begin prescribed treatment without unnecessary delays by verifying insurance coverage, identifying benefit requirements, and coordinating access solutions across medical and pharmacy benefit plans.
The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of payer systems, pharmacy or healthcare benefits workflows, and detailed documentation practices. This position is well-suited for a professional who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is motivated by removing barriers to patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct outbound calls and electronic benefit investigations to verify insurance coverage for prescribed therapies
- Identify copay amounts, prior authorization requirements, coverage limitations, and benefit exclusions with high accuracy
- Communicate directly with insurance payers, prescribers, and internal pharmacy teams to resolve benefit-related questions
- Support patient enrollment into copay assistance programs, manufacturer support programs, or alternative funding solutions when applicable
- Maintain thorough, timely, and compliant documentation of all benefit verification activities within internal systems
- Ensure adherence to HIPAA, CMS guidelines, and internal standard operating procedures throughout all workflows
- Assist with payer trend tracking, special projects, and process improvements to support overall patient access efficiency
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in benefits investigation, pharmacy operations, insurance verification, or patient access support
- Working knowledge of commercial insurance plans, PBMs, government coverage, and patient assistance programs
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-up skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and CRM or patient access software platforms
- Clear and professional communication style with the ability to navigate payer systems confidently
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
Schedule & Work Environment:
- Full-time, onsite position based in Rockville, MD
- Monday through Friday schedule
- Standard business hours between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM EST
- Professional, collaborative environment supporting patient access and therapy coordination
Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $45,000 – $55,000 per year ($21.50 – $26.50 per hour), based on experience and qualifications.
Interview Process:
