Location: Nashville, TN (Greater Metro Area)
We are seeking a Health Information Management Specialist to support medical records operations within an acute care healthcare environment. This role is responsible for maintaining the accuracy, integrity, security, and accessibility of patient health information throughout the full medical record lifecycle.
This position is ideal for a detail-oriented healthcare professional with experience in health information management, medical records, or release of information workflows who understands the importance of documentation integrity, regulatory compliance, and patient privacy.
Responsibilities:
- Manage incoming medical record and release of information requests from patients, providers, attorneys, insurance carriers, and external agencies
- Review medical records for completeness, accuracy, and timely closure following patient encounters
- Conduct chart deficiency analysis and follow up with providers and clinical staff regarding incomplete documentation
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA privacy regulations, state laws, and organizational information governance policies
- Support coding and clinical documentation integrity teams by ensuring records are complete and accessible
- Process electronic document scanning, indexing, and record management workflows within the EHR system
- Assist with subpoena responses, legal holds, audit requests, and compliance-related record retrieval activities
- Participate in EHR optimization and information governance initiatives
- Process amendment requests and documentation addenda in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Maintain accurate tracking logs and documentation related to record requests and disclosures
- Support retention and disposition processes for medical records according to organizational policies
- Collaborate with operational, clinical, and compliance teams regarding documentation and record integrity concerns
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Health Information Management or related field required
- RHIT or RHIA certification preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in health information management, medical records, or release of information required
- Working knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and applicable state health information regulations
- Experience with electronic health record systems and document management platforms preferred
- Familiarity with ICD-10, CPT coding terminology, and medical terminology
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in high-volume environments
- Strong communication and documentation management skills
- Ability to manage sensitive patient information with professionalism and confidentiality
Schedule:
- Full-time, onsite position
- Standard business hours
- Standard full-time hours per pay period
Salary Range: The salary range for this position is approximately $45,000 – $58,000 annually ($21.63 – $27.88 per hour), based on experience and qualifications. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
