Job Description

Location: Baltimore, MD (Greater Metro Area)

We are hiring for a Patient Financial Counselor with a regional health system located in the US. This position is a full-time, direct hire opportunity.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with patients before, during, and after visits to discuss estimated out-of-pocket costs and payment options
  • Screen patients for eligibility in Medicaid, charity care, hospital financial assistance, and manufacturer copay programs
  • Assist uninsured and underinsured patients with insurance marketplace enrollment and benefits applications
  • Set up payment plans and negotiate self-pay balances within organizational guidelines
  • Verify insurance benefits and provide patients with clear explanations of their coverage and liability
  • Collaborate with patient access, billing, and social work teams to resolve complex financial cases
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all financial counseling interactions in the patient accounting system
  • Track and report on financial assistance utilization, self-pay conversion rates, and collection metrics
  • Prepare cost estimates for scheduled procedures and communicate financial expectations to patients prior to service

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required; associate degree in healthcare administration or business preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in patient financial services, medical billing, or healthcare customer service
  • Knowledge of Medicaid eligibility, financial assistance programs, and insurance marketplace enrollment
  • Experience with hospital billing systems and patient accounting platforms
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a strong advantage
  • Empathetic communication style with ability to discuss sensitive financial topics professionally

Schedule:

  • Full-time position
  • Standard business hours
  • Standard full-time hours per pay period

Salary Range: The salary range for this position is approximately $40,000 – $52,000 annually ($19.23 – $25.00 per hour), based on experience and qualifications. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
