Location: Houston, TX (Greater Metro Area)
We are seeking a Inventory Control Specialist to manage pharmaceutical stock levels, minimize waste, and maintain compliance across multiple storage locations. This hands-on role is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail who understands the unique supply chain requirements of pharmacy distribution and the regulatory demands of pharmaceutical inventory management.
You will be the person who makes sure every medication is where it needs to be, when it needs to be there, and that every transaction is tracked, compliant, and auditable. This role touches procurement, operations, clinical support, and compliance every single day.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and maintain optimal inventory levels for specialty, retail, and controlled substance medications
- Conduct daily cycle counts, quarterly physical inventories, and variance reconciliation across all storage areas
- Manage pharmaceutical returns, recalls, and expired medication disposition in compliance with DEA and state regulations
- Coordinate with purchasing and procurement teams to forecast demand and prevent stockouts of critical medications
- Maintain accurate records in inventory management systems and ensure proper lot tracking and FIFO rotation
- Support 340B program compliance through inventory segregation, accumulator tracking, and audit readiness
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, shrinkage, and shipping variances with documented root cause analysis
- Ensure cold chain integrity and proper storage conditions for temperature-sensitive products including biologics and vaccines
- Process controlled substance receipts, transfers, and destructions in accordance with DEA Schedule II-V regulations
- Coordinate with wholesalers and manufacturers on order timing, backorder management, and allocation limitations
- Maintain organized and inspection-ready storage areas that meet state board and accreditation standards
- Generate inventory reports including stock levels, turn rates, expiration exposure, and cost analysis for pharmacy leadership
- Support annual DEA audits and state board of pharmacy inspections with complete documentation
- Participate in formulary transition activities when medications are added, removed, or substituted
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; associate degree or pharmacy technician certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of inventory management experience in a pharmacy or healthcare distribution environment
- Knowledge of DEA regulations, state board of pharmacy requirements, and 340B program guidelines
- Experience with pharmacy inventory management software and barcode scanning systems
- Strong math skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in warehouse or pharmacy environments
- Familiarity with cold chain management protocols and temperature monitoring systems
- Organizational skills with ability to maintain compliance documentation in audit-ready condition
Schedule:
- Full-time position
- Standard business hours
- Standard full-time hours per pay period
Salary Range: The salary range for this position is approximately $42,000 – $52,000 annually ($20.19 – $25.00 per hour), based on experience and qualifications. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
