Location: Chicago, IL

We are seeking a Pharmacy Technician, Compounding USP 797 to support sterile compounding operations within a hospital-based pharmacy environment. This position is a full-time, direct hire opportunity. This role is responsible for preparing sterile compounded medications, maintaining cleanroom compliance, supporting documentation accuracy, and assisting pharmacy teams with safe, high-quality compounding workflows.

This position is ideal for a compounding-focused pharmacy technician who is comfortable working in a cleanroom environment and understands the importance of accuracy, aseptic technique, and USP compliance. The ideal candidate brings hands-on sterile compounding experience, strong documentation habits, and a commitment to supporting safe medication preparation in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare sterile compounded preparations including IV admixtures, TPN, parenterals, and hazardous medications according to USP standards
  • Perform aseptic technique within ISO Class 5 primary engineering controls including LAFW, BSC, and CAI environments
  • Complete environmental monitoring documentation including air sampling, surface sampling, and temperature or pressure logs
  • Conduct garbing, gowning, and cleanroom checks to support contamination prevention procedures
  • Operate automated compounding devices and maintain related calibration and use records
  • Collaborate with pharmacists on end-product verification, visual inspection, and preparation accuracy
  • Prepare and verify compounding labels including drug name, strength, lot number, BUD, and patient identifiers
  • Maintain accurate compounding logs, batch records, and deviation documentation
  • Escalate out-of-specification findings, documentation concerns, or quality issues to pharmacy leadership
  • Support inventory management for compounding supplies, ingredients, packaging, and related materials

Qualifications:

  • Active Illinois pharmacy technician registration required
  • Active CPhT certification through PTCB or NHA required
  • Minimum of 2 years of sterile compounding experience in a hospital or high-complexity pharmacy environment preferred
  • Working knowledge of USP 797 and USP 800 standards required
  • Experience with automated compounding devices such as Baxter Exactamix, B. Braun Outlook, or similar systems preferred
  • Experience using pharmacy systems such as Epic Willow, Meditech, Kroll, or similar platforms preferred
  • Knowledge of environmental monitoring, media fill testing, fingertip sampling, and cleanroom protocols preferred
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and commitment to sterile compounding compliance

Schedule:

  • Full-time position
  • Onsite in Chicago, IL
  • Monday through Friday schedule
  • Day and evening shifts available; weekend rotation may apply

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is approximately $42,000 – $58,000 annually ($20.19 – $27.88 per hour), based on experience and qualifications.
