Location: Chicago, IL
We are seeking a Wound Care Nurse, RN to manage complex and non-healing wounds in a specialty outpatient wound care setting. This position is a full-time, direct hire opportunity based in Chicago, IL.
This role is best aligned for a certified wound care nurse who wants to practice at the top of the specialty with a dedicated patient panel. You will own the full arc of wound management: assessment, evidence-based treatment planning, advanced interventions including debridement and NPWT, and the patient education that determines whether a wound closes. The ideal candidate reads the underlying vascular, neuropathic, and nutritional picture behind a wound and coordinates the specialists needed to address it.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct systematic wound assessments using standardized tools, documenting dimensions, tissue type, exudate, and pain scores
- Develop evidence-based wound care plans using current clinical guidelines and revise them based on healing response
- Perform and supervise advanced wound interventions including sharp debridement, NPWT, and compression therapy
- Select, apply, and evaluate wound dressings based on wound characteristics and stage of healing
- Assess underlying contributing factors including vascular disease, neuropathy, and nutritional status, and coordinate specialist referrals
- Initiate and manage hyperbaric oxygen therapy referrals and coordinate care for non-healing wounds
- Educate patients and caregivers on wound self-management including dressing changes, offloading, infection signs, and nutrition
- Collaborate with vascular surgeons, podiatrists, and infectious disease physicians on coordinated treatment plans
- Maintain accurate EMR documentation covering assessments, treatment rationale, patient education, and care plan changes
- Monitor wound healing trajectories and escalate stalled or deteriorating wounds for advanced intervention
Qualifications:
- BSN required; MSN, DNP, or graduate coursework in wound care preferred
- Active, unrestricted Illinois RN license required; multistate compact licensure accepted
- CWCN, CWON, or CWS certification required; candidates actively pursuing certification will be considered
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience required
- Minimum of 2 years of dedicated wound care or WOC experience in an outpatient, acute, or home health setting required
- Proficiency with NPWT, sharp debridement, compression therapy, and advanced or biological dressings required; facility training provided
- Experience with wound care EMR platforms and documentation that meets billing compliance and regulatory requirements
- Strong patient education, clinical judgment, and interdisciplinary communication skills
Schedule:
- Full-time position, Monday through Friday
- On-site in Chicago, IL
- Day shift, standard clinic hours
Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is approximately $85,000 – $102,000 annually ($40.87 – $49.04 per hour), based on experience and qualifications.
