Location: Richmond, VA (Hybrid)
We are partnering with a growing healthcare organization in Richmond, Virginia, to hire a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Billing and Coding Specialist. This hybrid role is ideal for a billing and coding professional who understands the critical role accurate coding plays in patient care and revenue integrity. The right candidate brings strong ICD-10 and CPT coding knowledge, insurance billing experience, and a proactive mindset. Responsibilities:
- Accurately review and code medical records using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes
- Submit insurance claims and manage follow-up with commercial and government payers
- Investigate and resolve denied or rejected claims through appeals and corrections
- Verify insurance eligibility and coverage prior to services being rendered
- Work cross-functionally with clinical teams to clarify documentation and address coding discrepancies
- Ensure billing and coding practices remain compliant with HIPAA, payer guidelines, and current regulations
- Generate reports, support reconciliation processes, and track claim statuses in billing systems
- Participate in internal audits and assist in maintaining accurate, compliant billing records
- Stay current with coding updates, billing policy changes, and healthcare reimbursement best practices
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in health administration or related field preferred
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in medical billing and coding, preferably in outpatient or hospital-based settings
- Coding certification strongly preferred (e.g., CPC, CCS, CCA, or equivalent)
- Thorough knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS coding, and billing practices for commercial and government payers
- Familiarity with EMR platforms and medical billing systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, or similar)
- High attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and time management skills
- Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across clinical and administrative teams
- Able to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
Schedule & Work Environment:
- Hybrid schedule: 4 days onsite, 1 day remote
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Based in Richmond, VA
- Supportive, team-based environment focused on accuracy, compliance, and patient-centered care
Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $47,000 – $60,000 a year ($23.00 – $29.00 per hour), based on experience.
