Job Description

Location: Remote (US-based)

We are hiring for a Medical Coder, Outpatient Facility (CPC-H) with a Medical Coder specializing in outpatient facility located in the US. This position is a full-time, direct hire opportunity.

This position is ideal for a certified coder with outpatient facility experience who is comfortable working independently in a remote environment, meeting production and quality standards, and staying current on coding guideline updates that impact hospital outpatient reimbursement.

Responsibilities:

  • Assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes to hospital outpatient, emergency department, and ambulatory surgery records
  • Apply APC (Ambulatory Payment Classification) grouping logic and outpatient prospective payment system rules
  • Review physician documentation to identify all reportable diagnoses, procedures, and services for each encounter
  • Query physicians when documentation is insufficient to support accurate and complete code assignment
  • Ensure compliance with CMS OPPS rules, official coding guidelines, and payer-specific billing requirements
  • Meet departmental productivity standards and maintain coding accuracy rates above established quality benchmarks
  • Participate in coding audits and implement feedback to improve individual accuracy and compliance
  • Review and resolve coding-related claim edits and rejections from the charge master and billing system
  • Apply modifiers accurately to reflect the services provided and ensure appropriate reimbursement

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Health Information Management or a related field preferred
  • CPC, CPC-H, CCS, or RHIT credential required; outpatient facility coding credential strongly preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of outpatient facility or hospital-based coding experience
  • Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and APC payment methodology
  • Familiarity with CMS OPPS rules, modifier usage, and outpatient coding compliance requirements
  • Experience with encoder software such as 3M, Optum, or TruCode preferred

Schedule:

  • Full-time position
  • Standard business hours
  • Standard full-time hours per pay period

Salary Range: The salary range for this position is approximately $48,000 – $65,000 annually ($23.08 – $31.25 per hour), based on experience and qualifications.
