Oncology Nurse Navigator
Location: Baltimore, MD (Greater Metro Area)
We are seeking an Oncology Nurse Navigator to guide newly diagnosed cancer patients through the treatment continuum from diagnosis through survivorship. This specialized nursing role provides clinical expertise, emotional support, and care coordination to reduce barriers and ensure patients receive timely, appropriate cancer care at every stage of their journey.
Cancer changes everything for a patient and their family. You will be the person who helps them make sense of it. You will coordinate their care across multiple specialists, explain treatment options in language they understand, remove the barriers that stand between them and their next appointment, and be the consistent, trusted presence in a process that can feel overwhelming. This is nursing at its most meaningful.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for newly diagnosed oncology patients, guiding them through treatment planning and care coordination
- Assess patient needs including clinical, psychosocial, financial, and logistical barriers to treatment
- Coordinate multidisciplinary tumor board presentations and communicate treatment recommendations to patients and families
- Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment options, side effect management, and supportive care resources
- Facilitate timely scheduling of consultations, diagnostic imaging, surgical procedures, and infusion appointments
- Connect patients with social work, financial counseling, genetic counseling, and community support services
- Track navigation metrics including time-to-treatment, patient satisfaction, and program outcomes for CoC accreditation
- Collaborate with oncologists, surgeons, radiation therapy, and palliative care teams across the care continuum
- Coordinate clinical trial screening and enrollment support for eligible patients
- Manage survivorship care planning and transition patients to long-term follow-up protocols after active treatment
- Facilitate support group coordination and patient education seminars on cancer-related topics
- Monitor treatment compliance and follow up with patients who miss appointments or fall off the care pathway
- Support cancer registry data collection and Commission on Cancer accreditation requirements
- Participate in oncology quality improvement initiatives including national quality benchmarking programs
Qualifications:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required; BSN preferred
- Minimum 3 years of oncology nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting
- OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) certification required or obtained within 12 months
- Knowledge of NCCN guidelines, oncology treatment protocols, and clinical trial processes
- Experience with oncology-specific EHR modules and cancer registry reporting
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with a compassionate, patient-centered approach
- Strong organizational skills for managing complex patient caseloads across multiple disease sites
- Excellent communication skills for physician collaboration and patient education
Schedule:
- Full-time position
- Standard business hours
- Standard full-time hours per pay period
Salary Range: The salary range for this position is approximately $78,000 – $95,000 annually ($37.50 – $45.67 per hour), based on experience and qualifications. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
